ive got quite a few properties that I hunt but behind the house I have hogs coming in every night, I went and threw a bag of corn out set up my night hunting lights around 130am this boar came through at 15 yards I had my cabelas hawken .58 loaded with a .570 hornady round ball a .015 patch I turned my red headlamp on so I can see my rear and front sights as he turned broadside I took the shot, he went less then 10 yards. my 4 wheeler and mule are on other properties so I had to manually get this hog out with a game cart, I got him quartered up and on ice ill buy some domestic pig fat and make jalepeno cheddar smoked sausage

in Texas they are never far from water, they are very nomadic, they have no boundries, they are omnivourous which means they eat animals plants each other. Once you find established daily trails stick a game camera on them to get an idea of what time they are coming in, a baited spot where legal will keep them coming in. during the day you can find them in bottom land creeks drainages, but water is the best source as they have to have lots of water most Texans hunt them at night, its cooler hogs aren't as spooked as they are in the day time

Once you skin & butcher them do you see any signs of parasites?

No sir no signs of parasites, I make sure when cooked its a minimum of 160 degrees been hunting them since I was 9 about to be 50 never a problem, the only thing I have found, is wounded hogs. hogs are always fighting butting each other if it has a wound especially that is draining I refuse to touch it, they are carriers of staph swine brucellous ans pseudorabies

Mr. Bill it is coming soon as soon as I can get a big one coming to another ground blind spot. the other spots I'm usually in my climber don't wanna take a chance pulling the Kodiak up a tree, once I get my first handling mark ill have no qualms for now my 54s my 58 and my .50 black mountain magnum with 600 grain conicals will take care of the light work

Nice hog. That's a biggie for sure..

I've taken 3 hogs when I lived in TX, but that was before I discovered blackpowder. One was taken at night, the other two during the day.

I've smoked some boar pulled pork and had mixed success.. one was fabulous and indistinguishable from domestic pig. Another was terrible--even the smell.

I had a local butcher turn most of my boar into mild, medium, and spicy sausage. Everyone that tried that stuff loved it, even if they weren't "wild game eaters."
