Good Afternoon:
My departed father built a trade gun and completed it in 1988.
I have not shot it in many years, in fact, well before he passed on. When he died I got the trade gun and another beautiful longrifle he built. I am itching to start shooting it again. My question to the forum: is this .62 caliber? It appears to be 20 gauge. I would like to order balls, lead and a mold. Just want to make I order the correct accoutrements.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum. :)

If you stick a dime into the muzzle of the bore and about 1/2" of the dime is still sticking out above the muzzle, the bore is a .62 caliber.

(If there is a large edge break in the bore a little less than 1/2" will stick out.)

If the bore is .54 caliber, about 9/16" of the dime will stick out above the muzzle.

Get with a local sportsmans club that has a muzzleloading sub club, great way to learn hands on and most of the front stuffer folk love to talk about it. Hit some local rendevous or trade shows.Kalamazoo michigan is this weekend ( st pats day weekend) if its not too far, this is a BIG show
