Several years ago, I just happened to place an order for "Irish" linen on one of the fabric web sites. What came through was a tough weave you could not see daylight through and measured a perfect .018" thick. When I tried to reorder it, it was no longer available.

Does anyone have a source for close woven linen that will measure .015-.018"???

Yea, the Amish women give me funny looks when I go buy patching clothe . :idunno: :hmm:

Guess what? I have a micrometer but no linen locally available so the question was Where(?).

One great response. Thank you for your gracious help.

Two foul balls. Why do you clutter up our forum with your worthless text? Get out.

Crazy Crow carries true linen fabrics, in two weights. Good stuff, I made a shirt out of the heavier weight material.

You might also try fustian material- a mix of cotton and linen fibers, usually half and half.

If all you can buy is light weight linen fabric meant for women's summer blouses, you might try "fulling" (shrinking) the fabric by boiling, then drying in machine on hottest setting.

CAVEAT EMPTOR! Check the fiber content on the end of the bolt. There are many "linen" fabrics for sale that are a mix of natural and synthetic fibers.

Foul balls sometimes drift fair and back into play, and even a foul ball is a good souvenir, which may later spark useful conversation and discussion.

To whit; twice in the past few years I found at rummage sales similar (one red, one green) 100% linen draperies for sale for a pittance. I bought both of then, not knowing what they will eventually become. They mic at .015" thick. If they aren't dense enough for patching, they may become a neckerchief or something else. Stuff is where you find it.

Yeah, your right. If 'Dan`l couldn't find his specific thickness of specific "Irish" linen at his local shop,,
,, he'd just go on-line and ask to find a source for a specific thickness of specific "Irish" linen because all other linen isn't Irish, aka: not 100% flax.
Google must not have been invented in "Dan`l's day", :idunno: https://www.google.com/search?q="Irish"+linen&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-1
It might be kind of a pain in the butt, but each link could/can be contacted with the same question(S)
Can you not see light through it?
Does it measure .015-.018?
The choices could be made from the answers received from the direct seller of said Irish Linen.
I can't help, you can see light through the linen I bought,, I washed it once.

Well if Dan didn't use the internet he may have just had his wife make him some linen cloth to his precise measurements and opacity. Not sure what the punishment would be for failure but it's an option.

Ok all fun aside, have you noticed a significant difference in accuracy outside those specific measurements? Is this for a competition type load? Just curious so I can learn as much as possible.

Utrecht and some other mail order art supply houses sell Linen canvas for painting. I think it is about 5 oz, but you will have to check. 30 years ago, I bought a large piece of cotton painter canvas at Utrecht for my fly when camping. (7 x 12) As I recall, Utrecht did not sell small yardage pieces except as remnants in their stores.
