I am thinking about using my TVM fowler on a canada bear hunt.Have any of you been to canada bear hunting with a flintlock? How do you guys think a smooth bore will do over bait, and how hard was it to get powder in?I probably am going to drive up.I know I need paper work to get the gun in just wondering how hard it is with powder.

I took my 20 ga. trade gun to Canada 4 years ago and took a bear with it. Let your outfitter know what you are using so that he can set you up within a comfortable range for you. My outfitter has his stands set up for archery (about 20 yards) over the bait, so it was no problem for me.

We were able to take our powder in with us. Things may have changed in 4 years, but I think you can still take at least a pound of powder without any problem. We did have a hassle with the border guard. The one we got insisted that we needed to register our guns, Canadian law did not require it as they were reproductions of antique guns. Argued with him for about a half hour, he threatened to send me back home. After making us sit for about 45 minutes while he "investigated" the rule, he finally told us that we did need to register the guns (we didn't according to their laws but he was not going to give in). At this point I gave up arguing and did the paperwork. He never questioned the powder however.

We went in Ontario, a couple of hours north of Toronto.

Have fun, and hope you get one.

Not saying no but if you are not an expert marksmen, and stalker you could become the victim instead of the hunter.

People hundreds of years ago lives off the land, but understood one shot was all they had.

Bill the old owner of NorthStarWest went to Africa and took his Trade Guns to hunt, believe he was ther owner after Curlie, or Curlies partner.

He post photo of a Cap Buffalo he took with a NSWTrade Gun.
On his old web-site.

People in the good old day had noting but flintlock, and killed big game.

Many band shot lost their live because of poor shot placement.

You can kill about any animal with a Flintlock & good shot placement. Have fun live your dream.

Get some range time before your hunt.

Study bear pictures there size can be hard to judge and be extra careful of shot placement. A bears shoulder can be tough to get through especially with a round ball. Be sure of the animals anatomy and take your time on the shot placement, As stated the closer you can get the better. Also practice shooting on a full size paper bear target if one is available for you. But enjoy your hunt Bears are one of my favorite animals to hunt.AN APPALICHIAN HUNTER

You can buy powder in Canada , no paperwork and no licence required . Your outfitter should be able to arrange it anyways .
