Lyman has issued a recall on there Muzzleloader made between 3/1/17-12/22/17 serial number range of A595960-A599026.if you have one immediately discontinue any use due to potential breech plug separation. Contact Customer Service at 1-800-225-9626, M-F 9-4:15 , or [email protected] with all your information and serial number off the barrel. This will be of no cost to you and they will send you the box and packing and shipping label, and you will receive a new barrel and tang.

:hmm: I recall reading a post just recently where as the barrel and the breech separated??? Maybe this poster has saved some lives?

My only Lyman is too old

Thanks for the information.

I found a similar post on another forum which mentioned that this recall includes "Deerstalker, Great Plains, Great Plains Hunter, Trade Rifle, Plains Pistol, Black Powder Kits, and replacement barrels".

Apparently, it does not include the Percussion Left Hand Great Plains and Left Hand Great Plains Hunter models.

If in doubt Lyman can be reached at 800-225-9626.

I'd verify this recall before sending your gun anywhere....
You need to contact Lyman first and they will send you a box and shipping label and instruction.

It strike me as odd that the recall is issued from a sole retailer and not lyman or investarms.
And that people were notified by e-mail.

Believe nothing, confirm everything.

I agree.

The phone number in my original post was copied from another forum where the recall was posted.

The phone number in that post was different than the phone number in the official Lyman site. That's why I changed it.

The thought occured to me, a really simple way of stealing a bunch of Lyman muzzleloaders would be to create a false recall and post your own phone number. Then, when someone called, you could send him/her a box with your shipping address on it.
Walla! Boxes of rifles and pistols for only the cost of shipping.

The main reason I think this recall might be real is the post on our forum that described exactly the kind of failure the recall addresses.

Exactly.
It might be a Midsouth recall only....(to cover their butt)...

Luckily my guns are way older...But if I had one listed in the recall I would sit on it until this is confirmed.

This has all the makings of a possible scam so far.

Better safe than sorry.

I have 2 of their barrels but they fall outside the serial numbers of affected barrels. Can't be too careful so if someone has one inside the serial numbers I would stop using it. The faster the word gets spread the better. Lucky nobody has been injured or worse.

I would doubt it is a scam but anything is possible. The phone number could be different than Lyman's official phone so it would deal only with the affected serial numbers. If you know someone with a recently purchased Lyman firearm please let them know of the notice.

RECALL NOTICE from Lyman PHOTO
This is the Recall from Lyman.
I just can't get this photo thing.

Saw the photos on another forum. The breech plug broke in two at the barrel juncture. Looks like the breech plug is cast.

IMO: This is serious.

That's exactly what happened to mine. They made me send the whole rifle in and I received full refund. I see now that they are offering to fix the affected barrels. Wished they would have just fixed mine as it was my only ml. I have the money to get something a little nicer but I'm having a hard time finding something that suits my needs as well as that one. Customer service said new shipments will come in a few months and may just get another, but I've never been known for my patience

TC used cast breech plugs so did others.

TC's cast breech plug for 15/16 barrels had a narrow powder chamber that was only 3/8 inch in diameter. As I recall the thread was 5/8, so that only left a 1/8 in of breech plug wall strength. Also as I recall, Green Mountain had problems with helicoils used in their breeched barrels.

I does seem off that Investarms, is not in on the recall. They make Cabela's Hawken.

OK!...Guess I hit the panic button for nothing

That's definitely a malfunction....and does raise concerns about a patent breech. :shocked2:

Just my luck, my new 54 gpr flinter is in the recall range. Called the recall number, punched 4 for customer service and spoke to a pleasant lady. She verified that my serial number is in the questioned range, took my name, address and phone number. She advised they will be sending me shipping boxes and labels in a week or two. As mine was a kit I am to send them the stripped barrel and breech plug, and they will send me a replacement. Got my kit from MidwayUSA but have not heard from them about this, so thanks very much to the board for promptly publishing this important notice. That photo of the fractured breech plug in the other post string is pretty spooky. Something like that could ruin your whole day! Oh, by the way, I made her promise to pick out a tack driver for me.

yeah, Midsouth is such a disreputable company I imagine this is just an elaborate scheme for them to scam a bunch of people out of their Lyman guns. Good Grief!
