I got a rifle and haven't been able to get much info?
its a single trigger on the barrel says: CONNECTICUT VALLEY ARMS, INC. MADE IN SPAIN Black powder only GANDER HAWKEN Rifle .50 cal 895753.
Has no brass all back trim, hammer on right side.

Looks clean had to replace main spring and bore looks good, haven't shot yet.
I am new to sport and the forum has great information!

cva made rifle for different companys the same as investarms. the lyman, cabelas
and other lines ae made by them.

Back in the 60&70's there were a lot of companies selling the Spanish made muzzle loaders under their own name or blended names. :idunno: :idunno:

CVA sidelock’s were not a dime a dozen but rather a penny a dozen back in the day and still holds true today!

They had an untold number of model’s for basically the same rifle with only slight variations. Here on the forum we started a list naming all the different models that came to mind. One person would quickly name off 10 followed by the next poster adding another 5 other model’s. By the end of the topic we had a unbelievably large list!

That CVA Hawken might had been disturbed by Gander Mountain or it could have been named a Gander model just because they thought it sounded good in front of Hawken? I don’t know? CVA did have a large number of distributors though!

In closing, CVA did make their mark on the muzzleloading community. Many were first introduced to muzzleloading with one of their rifle’s. They were inexpensive and plentiful! The perfect muzzleloader for just getting into shooting blackpowder gun’s. Don’t have to put a lot of money into it to see if you’re gonna like shooting muzzleloader’s? Still holds true today with CVA!

Respectfully, Cowboy

And they make great Re-Kit project guns.
I'm currently working on turning a Frontier .50 into a Frontier/Mountain Rifle. Butt plate, nose cap, patch box and trigger guard salvaged from a CVA Mountain Rifle onto the Frontier.
The removed Frontier parts are starting to covort with a CVA Missori .50; the cresent butt plate was fitted to the stock yesterday; good riddance to the flat rubber pad. Going to try Leman type striping on the stock.
I charge myself $0 per hour for my work; so I will have about $140 into my low-bred Frontier/MR and Missori/Frontier together.
Well, it least it keeps me out of trouble???
