Just inherited one from my late father in law.
Not sure what to use it for. Maybe load with shot in case Mr. Copperhead wants to share my turkey stand. Anyone have any experience with one of these?

Just for fun mainly. Not the best quality derringers made but they do work if they were well put together.

Shootable but main springs tend to be weak. Had to tinker with the nipple on mine to get it to fire on the first hammer fall. Loaded with shot it may be a good snake gun but I'd practice first. I've loaded mine with a .433 diameter ball on top of 25 grains of Pyrodex P. Hard to aim with any accuracy.

Had to order the smaller balls also, .440 too large. Goes off first time. Sure hard to get a sight picture, only shot a few at a stick in a stock tank. Patched ball, did not try wadding.
Will have to try shot, that was just a wild idea as to what these are good for, besides fun.

It's also similar to the "muff pistols" carried by women back in the day inside their tubular hand warmer.

Talk about a neat place for a woman to hide a small pistol!

"Hey Larry. Here comes a likely looking woman to rob."

"Are you out of your mind Schmedely?
Check out that hand muff she's got. I heard she carries a .44 in that thing!

Do you want to volunteer to get shot?"

Just passed on one of these at the local gun store. It was a used factory assembled and finished model and was attractive enough. But if you put it on half-cock and pulled the trigger, the hammer fell, and they wanted ten dollars more than the current kit costs.

Yeah, people want big money for everything now. Whether it works or not. :cursing:
