My wife and I are visiting York for the weekend and whilst visiting the old castle museum prison I spotted this old paving slab from the prison courtyard.
Made me smile and then wonder why the young man was arrested!

Well he may have been held there awaiting sentence because if he was convicted for poaching he certainly would have been deported to the convict colony of Australia

Possibly not! The museum indicated criminals being deported to Australia started around 1847 (IIRC).
We assume he was there for poaching! He may just be missing his freedom!!

Maybe other colonies because I have research records that state poachers were deported has far back has 1800

Brits...a couple of things I notice in the drawing. 1) That guy shoots pheasants or whatever kind of bird that is, that are WA-A-A-A-A-Y bigger than the ones in your pictures (even though yours are big) and 2) I see he doesn't flush his birds first! :wink: :grin:

Now let's not start THAT again! :shake: :rotf:
