@OkieHawg -I have one of those on my Cabelas' Hawken .54 flinter. Use the target disc insert for shooting at the bench, remove it for hunting.

Works very well. Uses the tang screw plus you have to drill and tap for another screw.

Definitely need it on the shorter barrel. However on my CVA Kentucky with the longer barrel I can use the iron sights without a problem.

i like the Williams tang peep but can't find one. What do folks here think of this sight:

go to Williams web site and find the Williams FP-HAWKEN. Ask for the model with the click adjustable knobs. I love mine. Like you, my sight issues and ageing eyes were driving me to scope only firearms. The fun is BACK!

My 65 year old eyes don't work as well as they did so I mounted one on my Lyman GPR. I brought down my first black powder deer with it. My eye automatically centers the peep on the front sight and aiming is done. I basically moved along his back with the sight and then dropped into the kill zone. With the set trigger engaged once you are on target the bullet is gone.

I use the Lyman sight on a modified T/C Hawken for target shooting. It works well for that purpose although the aperture has to be shimmed for stability. The profile is pretty high for hunting use. When hunting I use a T/C peep.

I always wondered how repeatable is the zero if you remove barrel. Are you commited to not removing the barrel with this set up?

my barrel comes off and on without loosing the zero. I had to shorten the height of the front sight as the peep is as low as it is possible.
if you have eye problems like I do you will appreciate the ability to see the front sight with this setup.

Appreciate the info you shared. I already shoot peep but its a barrel mounted williams and it just stands out like a sore thumb. This might fit the bill just nicely. Thank you sir

Thanks everyone for your replies.

i ordered the Williams sight last night from Brownell's and it was shipped this morning.

one thing to remember, don't loose the fixed sights you remove. some day if you get the eye lens implants you may be able to use those original sights again.

I don't know who told you that the Lyman should not be used for hunting but that info is plain out wrong. I have been using the Lyman for about 15 years. They are a fantastic hunting sight.

I have been using the Lyman set up for years and years. I take the barrel off and put it on. I take the sight out of the base when I am riding Motorcycles or ATV's. The gun stays sighted in. In fact I take a range finder and get the yardage. Then I set the sight for that yardage. If the shot is 80 yards, I set the sight as close as I can. If the shot is 168 yards I set the sight for that shot.

Here is a video.

Sorry. I'm technologically challenged with the photo business. It is a rather simple tang mounted low profile sight originally marketed by T/C. They are often available used at inflated prices on various auction sites.

I'm seriously considering the Williams HP Hawkens peep sight as well on my T/C Renegade. What front sight and how tall a front sight do you use with yours? I will mainly be using it for range targets. Do you use the stock sight on your rifle, or a an add-on sight?
Thanks in advance.

I left the front sight on my Hawkens, but to get good alignment, I removed the tang strap off the bottom of the Williams sight and drilled/tapped two 6/32 holes in the tang to mount the peep. The peep sits lower and midrange on the peep elevation and 80 meters (88 yards) it is in perfect alignment for a PRB. Dropped 2 hash marks on the peep, it is dead on at 50 yards. I will be taking it to the 200 yard range this summer and will report back where on the sight calibrations zeroed out. I di order the .050 peep hole for longer range work, but use the stock .090 for hunting. Only takes 5 seconds to change it out.
