Thinking of getting a traditions Kentucky rifle in 45. It will mostly be a rondy shoot gun. I also want to hunt deer with it. Would 60 grains of FFg and a cast .440 ball be enough for deer? Say out to 80 yards

Do they still make them in 45 cal?

It will shoot better with 3FFF and give you more velocity....That's what I use. Yes it will do the job if you do yours.

Out to 80 yards a 58 with 140 grains is going to abuse the shooter about as much as it will abuse the deer if ranges are around 80 yards or less. That might be a good load for larger game, but over kill for deer.

I've killed deer with a 50 with about 80 grains of 2f and it did just fine.

I concur a 45 will be just fine out to 80 yards with decent shot placement. A gut shot with about any caliber is going to be a problem.

Yes they are around.
I ordered a kit from The Mountain Man store in Manitou Springs Colorado about a year and a half ago.

Fun store!!
