As I recall though Pat got a Skunk under a shed. He told his family they should call Rancid to help. His Grandma quipped that Rancid could drive out the skunk but she didn’t see how that would help, in fact would make things worse.

Most preparations for tincture of iodine already have ethanol in them. So adding to more ethanol or vodka or Everclear? will probably dilute it down to less than 1% iodine. Colorado, do your hands turn reddish?

I recall talking to Patrick during the early 70s and he was gung ho about writing humor and the outdoors.

As an aside, growing up in the late 50s and early 60s, I had 2 pair of clothes, one for school and one for home. Many times we would only have one overall bath per week due to lack of water. A damp washcloth sufficed to remove most of the dirt from face and hands for the rest of the week.

No my hands do not turn reddish...this is part of the reason for further dilution with ethanol.

I also Don't use "tincture" of iodine....it is 1-2%
1% is 10,000 ppm, I am diluting to a safe level of 12-25 ppm....A food safe standard rate. drinking water is disinfected at 5-10 ppm

Remember, Iodine can be toxic.

I suspect in some ways things were no different then than they are now.

For example, here in the southwestern Misssouri Ozarks, when driving around in the dimimishing rural areas, one may pass by 10 houses where things look pretty well cleaned up and organized, and the next one or two will have all kinds of trash, garbage, junk cars, scrap building materials, rusted and twisted corrugated roofing, front door open with no screen door so dogs can come and go as they please, etc.
It's often a multigenerational family lifestyle that sets the tone one way or the other.
