On my first build,

My traditions Kentucky pistol has the brass nose cap that does line up with the barrel holes but the little screws aren’t long enough. So, would you take off the wood or try and take some metal off the cap itself ?.

Longer machine screws. The Traditions Kentucky has no barrel wedge or pins to hold that barrel to the stock; the tang screw and the wood captured by the nosecap do the whole job. You might always use sensible loads in that pistol but someone else might belong to the "More is Better" school and really try some stout charges in it.

Longer screws, I had the same issue. The screws I found, I had to file the heads down to fit the counter inks in the nose cap.
