I love my trade gun, an old curly special 12 gauge smoothie what a great little gun. Problem is it has a Lott lock on it that’s been giving me problems. I posted before about having problems with flint life and I got that fixed. Now my frizzen spring has crapped out. I have it rigged so it works bc deer season is Monday here in PA but i was wondering if any of you knew of replacement springs (main and frizzen) for the Lott lock that ISNT made by pedersoli. I’m sorry for beating a dead horse with this lock and you guys have been a great help, it’s just at this time there is no drop in replacement with the Davis not available

Well I'd say first, what is meant by "crapped out"? IF you mean it has lost its tension and simply doesn't hold the pressure on the frizzen cam to hold the frizzen closed? So you have some sort of wedge pushing the upper portion of the spring upwards, against the frizzen cam?

I'd say look for a person who can heat, slightly bend, quench, and temper the spring, to bring it back to a proper tension. IF there are no gunsmiths who can do spring work near you I may be able to suggest a lock builder in Williamsport MD who might be able to work on the spring.

On the other hand if it's really bad you might be able to DIY it. Others on the forum can suggest the right temps to use. Heating and quenching is not the big deal..., it's the tempering that will be the tough part.

And also HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND GOD BLESS!!

And the same to you and everyone on the forum!

Before you do anything else, I cannot more strongly suggest you have to take some measurements of the spring and the frizzen spring retaining screw. You will need to know the diameter of the retaining screw in thousandths of an inch, so check it with a good caliper or micrometer. Then you need to know about how far away from the center of the loop in the spring for the retaining screw to a point along the bottom leaf of the spring where you measure upwards at a right angle/vertically to the top of the top edge of the top leaf where it goes under the bottom of the frizzen toe. Finally you need to measure on the back sided from the center of the hole for the retaining screw to the center of the stud that holds the spring in line on the lock plate along with how wide and thick the stud is.

With these measurements written down, I would call Track of the Wolf and ask them first if they have a frizzen spring that others have fitted to a Lott Lock. If not, then these measurements may help them find a frizzen spring that would work for you without having to do hardening/tempering or too much fitting it.

Thanks guys for the quick responses!! With the cambin creek idea i might send them the lock and see if they can make me new internals. I want to keep the face of the lock bc it’s stamped with curlys fox and i like that part of it. I don’t care the price either way as long as it’s reliable I’m happy

I reached out to cabin creek about building me a new lock or completely overhauling my Lott lock so we will see what they say.
