I've conducted an evaluation of the Lee lead hardness tester work several control specimens to determine its usefulness in determining the BHN value for the purity of lead in the casting of round ball ammunition. As there are only two testers on the market you can see that this works, but well..... have a look. There are some issues.

I have the Cabine Tree tester. I can test any lead as long as it fits in the jaws. Testing takes me a couple seconds and I can take it will me to stores and pawn shops looking for lead.

I've got both the Lee and LBT lead hardness testers and would like to try the cabin tree model as it is better suited to testing ingots not just cast bullets.
I have a hard time using the Lee scope to see the measurement ticks so have modified this by measuring the impression with a caliper. I can see this much better for more accuracy.

So, using the caliper with the Lee tester, how are your results? Does the Lee tester give good results this way? Even with the problems with the Lee scope, how were the results when using the Lee scope? Over all, what is your impression with the Lee tester?
