Just finished an uncorrected proof of a new Book from St. Martin's Press- sept 2017. By Tom Shachtman. Ignore the poorly chosen and possibley offensive title: How the French Saved America

Really a worthwhile read for anyone interested in the American Revolutionary Period. Eye opener on many fronts. Most signifigantly it paints the background and sets the stage for the lives our ancestors ended up playing out. Gives insight into how the tactics, equipment, strategy, daily life and enigmas that are familiar came to be. Not all of it is comfortable reading but if taken as a whole it shows an awful lot of impressive thought and action by all parties involved.

Be a great thing to put on the xmas stocking list or if you have a friendly local librarian they might have St. Martin's send a copy 'gratis' if they act fast.

I doubt that most American's have the slightest idea how much our country owes the French for their efforts during the Revolutionary War for Independence. Thank you for the suggestion.

I had read a novel about a British sea officer meeting an American in the Caribbean between Yorktown/Chesapeake and the Saints. He says to the American “you are just trading a constitutional monarch for a French tyrant. Do you think they will just leave after the war? ”˜
This was a novel, but I bet the thought was on the mind of more then one Brit, and maybe a few Americans.
