Just received a Ft. Frederick horn from a builder could not be happier than a hound on a hot trail. Going to commission another themed on Ft. Loudon located in Pennsylvania. It will be a lobed horn based on the black boys and their activities in the area. Question is I am looking for a detailed period map of the area located around the fort. Internet has not produced a suitable map. I have a contact at the Conocheauge Institute a local research group with a great library willing to assist. Question is any one here have a map they would be willing to share. If you whish to see the Ft. Frederick horn it is on the contemporary makers site, use the upper left hand inquiry box and type in the name KEVIN HART.

You need to do some old fashioned searching without the computer. Contact your state historical society, state lands commissioner, libraries, etc. and ask for access to those maps. Some states copy them for resale. I'll betcha you will find some very interesting stuff along the way.

Not as of now, will be doing a event at Ft.Loudon end of October will check with the staff at that time. R.C.

Style is in the ball park but as you say wrong Ft. Loudon. The Ft. Loudon I am interested in is about 20 miles east of Chambersburg Pa. Sits on the upper head waters of the conocheauge creek. Thanks for the thoughts. This is part of the excitement that goes into a project. R.C.

Spent an hour hunting the area. Google maps kept saying it was at a spot but look close and it's some guy's house. Pics of the rebuilt fort and the historical functions but dang it if I can find where it sits. Creeks and rivers haven't changed much but got to believe any lake with a flat top has got to be modern. Strange no maps appear to have survived. Every one was the Ft. Loudon in Tennessee. Caramba! :haha:

We know it's where Forbes Road turned back north toward Ft. Lyttleton from Chambersberg. Google maps shows it actual location and a map could be traced from the topography, excluding what are obviously man made lakes and ponds of modern origin. I would think the creeks and rives would be pretty close to where they were then.

I said east of Chambersburg I made a typo it is west. The lake is named cowens gap it is a state park. The fort is a stockade type structure an is about 500 yards off of route 30, R.C.

Hi All, thought I would let every one know I have found suitable period maps suitable for the horn project. Thanks to all for your assistance. R.C.

Great. Put in more time last night searching the site area. Google Earth showed someone's yard up the street but I got smart and followed it down to the creek et voila! learned everything I never wanted to know about it! :haha: Just never found anything along the lines of a period map! Glad your search turned u better results!

look for Forbes Road maps, plus the Conocheauge Institute was great, thanks for your in-put. R.C.
