Going there in a few days for one day. I was there in january, saw the shops, gunsmith etc.

Didn't look in the museum or eat there.

I'm also a newbie to reenacting.

Whenever I go, I make a list ahead of time of the places I want to ask questions and the questions themselves. I leave room on the clip board to jot down notes.

The DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum is well worth a visit.

Not knowing your interests, or if you are going alone or accompanied, not sure how much more I can help.

One day is not enough to see it all so you will have to set priorities about what is most interesting to you. Keep in mind that not every trade is open every day and that some of the most popular areas (Governors Palace for example) may have lines that take up time that could be spent actually viewing & talking to tradespeople at less well known shops (cooperage for example). The museum is a good place to get lunch & has a very good gun exhibit (muskets, rifles,Dunmore's carbines, etc.) right next to the cafeteria. You can get up close to these guns & look for as long as you like as it is not part of a tour such as at the Magazine. Hope you enjoy your visit.

We were there once many years ago. We bought the full ticket. But :shocked2: all the shops and exhibits were closed. :cursing: I felt cheated, still do. There are many historical sites and museums around our great country, most of which are free. Never again to Williamsburg. :shake:

Perhaps it is because I didn't have a couple of days to kick back and "Absorb" the whole Williamsburg experience that causes me to put a return visit low on my list of interests.
That said...I'm going to reiterate Dave's suggestion that you try to get over to Jamestown while you're in the area.
