Any forum members ever attended one of these Longbow gatherings? This GLLI event is in my neck of the woods this weekend and I'm no archer, but wonder if it's worth a visit. Are Longbow archers genuine or spurious traditionalists like those in-line folk? :hmm:

I'd go if it were in my neck of the woods, but then I greatly prefer traditional archery tackle to the compound and release stuff so many shoot today. Learning to be accurate and effective with a longbow takes considerable dedication, similar to the dedication it takes to become proficient with a traditional muzzleloader vs. a cartridge weapon.

I have never been to that one. I think Ron Laclair was a regular top shooter there in the past.

Trad archery shoots and Rondys are similar to trad Muzzleloader events in many respects. There will be much less emphasis on historic clothing, but archery traditionalists as a group seem to like wearing hunting shirts, buckskins, and making their own gear just as many of us do. The traditional muzzleloading enthusiast who does not also shoot bows should still be able to find many knives and hawks, hunting items, craft products, and wool clothing etc, on traders row that should be of some interest. I would check it out if I were nearby.

I've only been to OJam in Oklahoma. There were all sorts of stick bows and even a few fiberglass laminated ones. There was lots of energy in the air. No one I saw was wearing anything like what black powder folk would call traditional attire.
