Going for my 1st time. Taking the girlfriend.

We got period clothing, but no tent. Hoping to borrow one from a friend so we can stay in the period correct camping area.

She's got a handmade 45 cal percussion. I got my only working LH, a lyman GPR with peep sights. I don't mind being disqualified because it has a peep sight, but think they'll let me shoot?

The Niantic, CT Sportsmen's Club is holding it's first annual Hawaiian shirt line shoot on Sunday July 30th from 10-1PM. This is a fun shoot with no scoring or prizes. It is just to try to get more people interested in shooting muzzle loaders. There will be instructors and guns of various sizes to accommodate younger and smaller stature people. all are welcome, and be sure to wear your Hawaiian shirt.

Hi there! I should be at the BTRF for at least sat&sun if not the whole weekend. Its a blast every year, and this year a good friend of mine is the booshway so it should be extra lively. I know he and the guys have been working hard to prepare for it.

As far as period clothing goes, they are pretty relaxed and accommodating, meaning a wool blanket poncho should work in the evening. Definitely try to get some clothes from your friend. Also, I may have a trade blanket with some shirts, and I believe another member of our group will have a trade blanket with some girls clothing. Hopefully you two are able to stay overnight because its a blast and you get the real flavor and ambiance of a rendezvous rather than just a shooting event.

I'd think they'd let you plink at the range, but keep in mind you could always just share your gf's gun for comp.

Just a reminder, the Burnt Toe Rifle Frolic is this weekend! The shoot is a woodswalk, and is a blast. The camp is lively, so if you rendezvous, this is a fun one. Pot luck dinner on Sat. Here's the fb link where the pamphlet is posted. BTRF FB Page

I should also add that day shooters are welcome, and are also welcome to stay for the pot luck for an additional fee or dish! This weekend's weather is looking perfect for a good shoot & vous!!!

The weekend was great.

I have been concerned the period correct folks would fuss over newbies coming. However, it was a very good time. My girlfriend felt aukward on modern clothes and put some period correct ones on.

It was her first woods walk , she placed 5th.

Thanks for everyone who made it there, made it happen, and made it friendly.

Puhmato, I'd be glad to help out with prep for the event. I'm about an hour away in Columbia county NY.

Thanks! Glad you had a "blast." It was good meeting the two of you on Friday evening. While small and short, BTRF is one of my favorite living history events each year. I'll pass your praises onto the booshway next time I see him. I hope to see you there next year. Take care!

Sometimes I think I would like to go to one of the NE state's shoots/encampments sometime, but the state and municipal gun and ammunition laws scare and anger me, so I always pass up on the opportunity.

Most laws don't apply to BP arms, except handgonnes.

In ny flintlocks and BP ship right to my door.

Pennsylvania is extremely gun friendly and very history rich. Don't pass it up
The gun went from a cottage industry to industrialization in MA and CT lots of places you could visit, as well as french and Indian and Rev war history.

Do you know Emery (sp?) & Pam Wessel, as they often attend. Btw, he shoots a 20gal. smoothbore [very well] while Pam uses a .45cal. FL. I'll probably see them tomorrow at a local (Saugerties Fish & Game) woods walk.

Maven,

I shoot with him pretty often. Myself and my girflriend Sara shot with them both in the same group at burnt toe.

I think Emery got 2nd place, I got 3rd, and I forgot what Pam placed at, Maybe 4th.

Pam's got one nice gun made by Jack Hansberry

Yep, I saw and shouldered Pam's new gun yesterday (and Jack as well) and I really liked it. Seemed more reliable than the one she used to use. As for Emery, he's an amazing shot with a smoothbore and hit a 125 yd. gong with it (oxygen tank suspended from a tripod) yesterday. Pam hit it for the first time ever, but alas, many of us didn't.

I got no problems hitting that tank for some reason.

Now that coil spring at Saugerties makes me nuts. I'll get her someday.

PAm was having trouble with her new rifle at Burnt Toe. She would of been beating me otherwise for sure. They're both good shots.

I loved jack's gun, but I like easily removable touch hole liners. I believe jack uses the shear off type, as there is no thread.

I always remove my touch hole and clean with alcohol before I go hunting. Touch hole is known to be clean as whistle, and the threads get lubed every year.
