I recently purchased the two large Indian Torador 'Wall Guns'. My question is, does anyone have an idea what wood has been used for the stocks? It has quite a fine grain and is very light in colour.

Hi Dave. Don't know how I missed this Thread. See below. Hope this helps......

According to Elgood Firearms of the Islamic World, wood used was varied but Indian Rosewood, also known as Indian Blackwood, Sissu and Shisham was frequently used. Also Pear, Maple, Partridge, Burr Elm and Walnut depending on availability. Some of the Torador appear to have very plain stocks, which maybe suggests that if “good” wood was not available then anything would do.

Thanks for the reply, Rick. Funnily enough, Sissu was one wood the guy I bought them from suggested, together with Satinwood! As you say, probably any decent wood that came along.
