I see a lot of blades with the rasp teeth left on for decoration. Doesnt stuff get hung up in it when your cutting food? Or the hawks doesnt it kinda drag when your splitting kindking?
 
I'd be worried about rust traps and stress risers myself. Of course, Old Hickory's "hammer marks" are much the same thing and they don't seem to hurt the knife much...
 
I heat the clean steel and pound the teeth flat. Leaves the superficial appearance (in some areas) and a smooth surface after filing.
