i just talked to ray that owens sitting fox, he is a nice man. i have a new barrel and a stock and parts for a jaeger that i bought from TOW and am having trouble fitting together, he said for me to ship it all to him and he would finish it as cheap as he can. i am going to send it all to him monday. he seems stright up to me.

any imput from all would be nice. sent an email a week ago for a quote on a rifle and haven't heard back from them. also looking at tvm for a rifle.

I bought a Jaeger rifle from him several years ago. its been a great gun, well fitted, CM4 maple stock, all parts are tightly inlaid and it shoots as good as it looks. I would not hesitate to buy from him again.

sorry guys must have had a seizure or heart flutter anyway thanks flint what kind of parts barrel lock ect

I picked up a kit from Ray a few years back now. While it is the only muzzle loader I own I feel that the price was very fair and the quality was good. The stock was roughed for barrel and lock which left me a decent amount of work to do for my first build but not so much that I was overly challenged. As I am not a student of guns I could not tell you how HC my gun is but I do know how much I enjoy taking it into the woods with me.

thanks for the info guy just wondering how does it shoot :idunno: did it have quality parts is the stock nice or plain please elaborate

Their online catalog will give you a description of the kind of wood they use for each gun. the "Poor Boy" styles use plain wood in the stock and very little to nothing in the way of decorative pieces. The nice long rifles will have a much better grade of wood http://www.sittingfoxmuzzleloaders...gh Valley swamped Pennsylvania Long Rifle.htm

So far as I know, the locks, triggers and the barrels are all good stuff. My only reservation about Sitting Fox is what I have read posted here on this forum and that is if you choose to buy a finished rifle, because they farm out all building to different people of differing abilities, you may get a nicely finished rifle or you may get something less that you may find not to your satisfaction. I think the kits, because they are an assemblage of parts and are not dependent on the craftsmanship of Sitting Fox's craftsmen, you will get a good deal and the finished product will depend on your skill. You can make a beautiful rifle if you choose to take your time and make sure of what you are doing before doing it. Take your time and have a lot of patience and you can turn out a family heirloom. Rush it and you will end up with something that looks like it was hurriedly thrown together.

i want a round bottom cut rifling, will have to talk brand with them, 3/4", .32 cal., 36" long, small siler lock, double set trigger. i do want a really nice piece of maple though, alot of stripping. hardware will be iron, which i may just make in my blacksmith shop. want a thin, light squirrel gun.

thanks for your reply bill, thats what ive heard,as you say a kit would be the way to go i guess, going to have to get some new tools

thats what i was wondering can you special order well good luck and let me know what happens ,im not in a hurry thanks bp :hatsoff:

Based on personal experience with this guy, I would suggest you see the rifle and look it over real good BEFORE you pay for it!! Ron

Sitting Fox has really taken it on the chin recently on this forum. But as Billnpatie says on the finished guns there is good and bad, depending on the builder to whom Ray sent it out. There are some really good builders working for Ray; and if it were me wanting such a gun, I would ask Ray to send the project to James Frost. he does excellent work...but there is a bit of a wait. I would even have Frost build a gun in the white.

thanks trapper, yea they have been taking a beating only because they for no other term send their work out i just wonder if they inspect the work that has their name on it :idunno:
