Looks like you are ready for the next step, incremental cut radius turning.

Get a copy Guy Lautard's Tables & Instructions for Ball and radius Generation. You will have to google the book to find it Guy's website. I don;t believe we are allowed to post links to other sites on this board.

The book will show you how to cut a radius by moving the carriage and cross feed in small specific increments. I have used it a couple of times and it works.

already know how to do that but never had to do it i always work the hand wheels like an etch a sketch. when i found out my machining class was being shut down the teacher told me not to be upset because there's not much else they could teach me :( :idunno:

Thanks.
I took the two golfball mortars out today the new one did pretty good i still need to find how much powder it likes.

So get busy!!

oh im busy. some time this week i am going to try to get another piece of that 2.5 inch, round off the end, then drill a hole so that it breaks through along the bottom and have the trunnion go through the hole and have that welded on that way it wont look so ugly

If you don't have a mill what you can to do is drill the hole for the trunnion. Then face of the end to leave half the trunnion hole. Then do the incremental radius.

thats the plan. these things are addicting.

i also changed the newest mortar a little bit, i drilled a no. 1 hole in the vent to chamber it for a .22 blank so maybe i'll get better ignition I didnt drill all the way through so it still has the 1/8" vent.

Thanks
right now i will tap it with a tack hammer as light as i can and if it helps with ignition i will make some kind of pull string hammer.

holy cow! bought some #4 blanks :shocked2: dont think i need any powder those things are strong

Yikes, how are you retaining the the spen tcases in the gun so they don't fly out like a secondary projectile

when the gas goes back into the case it swages the case into the .22 chamber and that holds it in

I can assure you, from experience that is correct only sometimes.

Re: .22 blanks for ignition. Check out some of Dom Carpenter's vids at youtube on his channel "cannonfab." He has a ML Gatling and Hotchkiss he uses those in. Surprisingly loud little rascals. :haha:

P.S. Great new avatar! You are now officially my Huckleberry.
