In early November we'll be going to southeast Wisconsin to see my wife's family. I may have a few hours here and there to myself. Are there any ML or black powder stores in the Waukesha/Milwaukee area worth a visit? Something like Dixon's would be great but that's a lot to expect.

Thanks for any help.

Jeff

S.E. Wisconsin has a large number of stores, large and small, well-stocked with modern shooting and hunting gear, but a dearth of traditional/blackpowder supplies. As far as I know, there are no shops around here that specialize in blackpowder gear/guns.

Sorry

CZ,

Thanks. I couldn't remember or find one but thought it was worth asking. There was such a shop about 30 years ago, up in the Holy Hill area if I recall. But that one is long gone. Bummer! Might have to be content with a trip to Lee Precision. Never know when I might need (yeah, right) another loading press or something.

There is a huge Cabelas store just north of Milwaukee....is it worth a visit?? Well, probably, although most of the muzzleloader stuff will be for those new-fangled-muzzleloader-in-name-only gadgets. They do carry some traditional guns. You can still easily while away a couple of hours there.

How about contacting the NMLRA and getting the names and contact phone numbers for Charter clubs in the Milwaukee area? And ask for the name and phone number for the Field Representative of the NMLRA for that area, too? These people are likely to know the "out-of-the-way" places that might interest you during a visit. There is a big box store like cabelas or gander mountain located in Glencoe, Illinois, just south of the Wisconsin Border, at the Great America mall. And I know there is a gun club on the border, just south of Racine, Wisconsin- the State line Gun Club. The guys there know who are the MLers in the club and area, and can give you guidance. That club handles all kinds of guns and shooters- not just MLers.

Paul and Mazo,

Thanks for the ideas and links. I've put them in the Favorites folder for future reference. I won't have time for them this trip, darn it. However, as a bribe my wife is offering a trip to Cabelas and to the Lee Precision factory one afternoon. Probably won't get anything from Cabelas (maybe) but will likely get a new press at Lee. They often have factory seconds at a big discount.
