I understand that RMC will be auctioning all of their equipment this Saturday. Too bad! I know their flinters were hardly PC with laminated stocks, but the locks are very good and the green Mountain barrels are accurate. There was a change of ownership a few years ago, and their prices went through the roof for finished rifles and components. I guess if you can't sell flinters in PA, you can't sell flinters anywhere!

I'm sorry to see that. I've ordered quite a few things from them over the years. They were a stand up company to do business with.

Grantman,
If that is for real I am :(
I have delt with RMC,and I would put them
high on my list of companys to deal with!IMHO
snake-eyes :hmm:

The only thing I can find is an announcement on RMC Sports website that

RMC Sports Outlet will be moving on 09/01/2009
To: Cox's Gun Shop
230 East Main Street
Millheim, PA 16854
phone (814) 349 - 5111
email: [email protected]

Sounds to me like someone else may be taking over the retail sales?

In the late 1980's there was a recession and a number of the little muzzle loader shops and businesse closed up. No difference with this recession. RMC sold a good product, but cost o component made them high end for poduction guns. When $ is scarce and folks wonder whereth groceries ll be coming from, they don't order expensive guns, boats or motorcycles. Here in PA, harley is moving/closing it' plant. Boat dealers have folded and RMC and some of the local gun shops have closed.

The media jerks anounced that the recession will be over by this fall. BS. harley closes or moves, this area is in deep doo doo.

Its hard to sell affordable muzzleloaders when your main barrel supplier stops making the barrels. GM didnt see it worth the expense at making them anymore.

Seeing how Knight went under, GM doesnt look like it will be around much longer.

I thought the scarcity of GM barrels was military demand caused by the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yup. Soon as that demand goes away they may decide muzzleloading barrels are worth making again. I would think that they still have the tooling. If they sold it then somebody else should be opening a shop soon.

I dunno...I can't find anything about this. Maybe they're going to stop making guns, but it seems like the accessories/Oxyoke part of the business will be unaffected. They're offering a 2010 catalog at www.rmcoxyoke.com.

Just in case, I ordered another vent liner for my GPR and a spare CO2 unloader with flintlock adapter. The CO2 unloader was only $10 less 15%. The vent liner, CO2 unloader and 6 CO2 cartridges was just over $25 shipped. I only got the cartridges because they have a $25 minimum for credit card orders.

Green Mountain makes some great BP barrels, when they did. Looks like to me they are just living off the Government tit for now. :idunno:

Unless you have some insider information I don't know about, I would not be putting any money down on a bet that GM is going broke. Yes, its been filling a contract for barrels for the government. Its good money, and it helps to pay the bills. But, it also helps a small, or medium sized company expand, buy new equipment, and be in a position to offer to do custom work for other gunmakers at prices that will be profitable for the business. Mergers between gun companies occur frequently, simply because the sporting gun business is a relatively small market. When Smith and Wesson was in its heydays, back 25 years ago, more than 80% of its guns were being sold overseas- not here in the USA.

Many years ago, now, Colt ordered up a limited production run of specially made handgun grips for its famous Peacemaker revolver. 5,000 were produced, and ALL of them were sold overseas. The man who made the grips told me he has never seen one of the guns in all the years he has traveled around the country, and attended SHOT shows, and major gun shows, or visited the various domestic gun companies. Colt doesn't even have one of the guns in that series for him to see!

Green Mountain has earned a reputation for making great barrels at reasonable prices over the years. I suspect it will be around for many more years to come.

We saw some shortages, and some type of barrels dropped from production simply because the company did not sell enough of the original run to warrant another run.

This happens in all industries, and there are always customers who want the company to produce another "widget" just like the trusty one they have owned all these years. :( But, only custom barrel makers can afford to make One-off barrels for that kind of customer, and it will cost the customer more than if it were a regular production item made by a company like GM. :hmm:

Maybe that gov't job requires their entire production capacity. When those kind of jobs come along small time customers usually have to go to Helen Waite. Some BP barrels are coming out of GM again so there is hope.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the origional owner and one who manufactured the RMC products had retired in 2009. Retirement wasn't for him and in Jan 2013 he bought back the company and moved it to Grove City, PA! As of the end of March 2013 he should have a site up and running online. I will try to put some info on my profile page for contacts.

They are back! He actually retired but bought the company back in Jan 2013 and has moved it to Grove City, PA.

After retiring in 2009 the origional owner of RMC Muzzleloading decided retirement wasn't for him and he bought it back in Jan 2013, moved it to Grove City, PA ( some things still in transit) and is back in business with his family helping him run it!
