Does Jack put any identifying marks on his rifles?
I bought a pre-owned .36 caliber flintlock that was sold as one he made. It has a 42 inch barrel that is 13/16 inches across the flats. The lock is identical to the small Siler. It is full stocked without a nose cap, tailpipe, patch box or butt plate. There is a toe plate and at the heel, there is a piece of black inlet material (wood or horn?). The stock has an area removed near the muzzle so that the ramrod can be removed more easily. The rifle stands about 58 inches tall. The cheek piece has two inlays, a crescent moon and a hunter's star. The barrel is pinned. There are double set triggers, the trigger guard looks like Garner's Bean guard. All the furniture except the front sight (brass and German silver) and the side plate (brass or German silver) are steel.
Thanks for any information you can give me.

Pictures would be nice as what you have described could have been made by any one of a number of builders. I can't say if he signed all his rifles, but I have a Garner/Jones "Grand Rifle" and it is signed as such by them on the top barrel flat. Hopefully, someone who has one or more of his rifles will chime in. Emery

Have you pulled the barrel and looked at the bottom flat in the barrel mortise? Sometimes you find signatures there, too.

If I'm not mistaken, one of the features common to the guns made by Jack is the method of making the ramrod groove.

His guns (and most of TVM's) only drill their ramrod holes into the forend about 2 inches. Then, from inside the barrel channel they mill a slot that starts at that entry hole and extends back to the lock area.
This leaves an open channel in the bottom of the barrel channel.

I don't know of any other builder that does this, this way.

If your gun has this sort of ramrod groove it was very likely built by Jack or someone at TVM.

I have a rifle and a pistol made by Garner. Both guns are signed J. Garner. Jack sells lots of kits yours sounds like a kit.

I've got one of his that he signed on the top flat of the barrel. Maybe he signs the ones the completes for customers and doesn't with the kits.

I have a Jack Garner pistol and it is signed on the top flat as well. A couple of years ago, I ordered a completed blunderbus from Tennessee Valley Manufacturing and Jack had another individual make the gun to which this gentleman put his name on the top flat. So, it seems (to me) that this is the way Jack signs his personal work. I think that if Jack himself made yours, it would have had his signature. Call him and ask. He is a very fine fellow.

These are the only marks on the barrel.

There was nothing in the barrel channel.

I just bought one of these at a gun show today. It says Jones & Garner Grand Rifle #43. It is a .54 caliber flint. In really great shape and stole it for $400.00. I will post a picture tomorrow. Would be interested to know any history. Hopefully, can shoot it tomorrow if it doesn't rain.
