Was wondering if anyone makes period correct hats in blaze orange for hunters? I hope to have a Caped Woodsman's Frock and a Capote made for this up comming muzzle loader season, my first with a flinter, and it seems silly to me to wear my normal baseball cap type orange hat. Am I limited to a Knitted Liberty cap or is there other choices out there?
Thanks in advance

Are you from a state that require's a certain sq. in. of blaze orange? Places like Dunn's sell blaze hatbands you can slip over the crown of most any brimmed hat. Or, as you say, a blaze orange liberty cap.

Charlie P. Yes we are required to wear 200 sq inches of solid orange on our head during muzzle loader season here in R.I.

Here's one from Noggintops that, at least, is better than a baseball cap. Maybe you can round the crown out?

Cabela's (at least it's felt - maybe this can be shaped into a slouch or really funky cocked hat).

Ya I thought about the ole "crusher" type felt hats but figured I'd ask if there was any others out there. I never could wear knitted type hats. I do like the looks of that first Noggintops you posted and will probably end up wearin one those. I'm not to concerned about being exactly period correct, besides the color, just don't want to wear something totally out of place like a baseball cap. Heh thats just wrong while wearing a Capote.
Thanks again

If you are in period clothing and wearing a capote why not go to the local fabric store and buy some blaze orange fabric and temporarily pin it to the PC clothing. Pin a couple of pannels to the hood and one front and back of the torso. It would be cheap and fill the legal requirements. Some states do not require the blaze orange when shooting traditional MLs during the ML season. I guess in RI you'd best wear it!!

How about getting a blaze orange hooded sweatshirt to wear under your capote and pull the hood up. It would also give you added warmth.

I realize your post is over a month old, but you can get a 100% wool hand knitted Voyageur cap in hunter orange from "Smoke and Fire Co."
Smoke and fire Co.
Voyageur Cap
The orange Voyageur cap catalog number is HS-302, specify size and color. Hope this helps.
