can some one tell the rifle twist rate of this gun . i know its designed to shoot minni-balls .but yesterday i was shootig patch and ball with 60 grains and had farly good groups considering this the first time a i realy shot it a lot about 40 rounds plus i figuered its a lot cheaper to shoot to season the bore.

Put a tight fitting patch on a jag and push it all the way to the bottom. Mark the rod in line with the front sight right even with the muzzle and as you pull the rod slowly back out watch that mark. When it makes 1/4 turn measure from the muzzle to the mark on the rod and mutiply it by 4. This will give you the rate of twist. If it is 12" to the mark, 12X4=48, so you would have a 1-48" twist.

According to the Dixie Catalog, the EuroArms 1861 Springfield 3 band rifle has a 3 land, .577 bore with .589 grooves. The rate of twist is 1-78.

The Dixie 1861 Springfield Rifle Kit made by Miroku/Japan has a 3 land, .580 bore with .592 grooves. The rate of twist is 1-64

The Pedersoli 1861 Springfield 3 band Rifle has a 3 land, .580 bore with .592 grooves. The rate of twist is 1-78.

Have a good 'un :)
