If the barrel is stainless, it makes no difference whether you use hot or cold water to clean it. IMO you should use some type of soap to cut thru the oil left from the lube to really clean the bore.
As for using bore butter to protect the bore, here again in my opinion the stainless really doesn't need it but as it is a good practice with steel barrels go ahead and do it just for the sake of establishing a routine.
Yes, stainless will tarnish or discolor but it won't really "rust" and form pits like regular steel will.
