I’m building a .36 caliber poor boy style squirrel rifle and have decided I want a tallow/grease hole. What is a common size and depth it’s hard to tell from pictures I’ve seen. I’m guessing 3/4 in diameter but depth has me stumped.
 
They were hollowed out with whatever was in the shop that would do the job. Probably the same Forstner type bit they used to hollow out their patch boxes. 7/8” to 1” or so In diameter is common.
Butts were slender so .3 to .5” deep.
Here’s one with doubles 1” x .35” by Jack Duprey.
