Good morning all! I’m trying to decide which patch box release type would be best on an earlier Lancaster or York style rifle. Now that the depth of the patch box recess has been addressed, I’m looking for your collective expertise on whether the push button release at the top of the butt plate is authentic for this style rifle or if the button/spring release at the butt plate is the best choice. The first photos are of the rifle in question. The second, showing the button spring release are on a Cabin Creek York rifle built 5+ years ago
