Went to the range with my T.C. 58 Cal. rifle.
Used 90 Gr. of 2F KIK powder. O/P wad, .570 RB wrapped in a .018 spit patch.( Retrieved patchs looked good) Shooting done at 50 yds. Target is a 6 inch circle.
Don't like the sights on these rifles as they tend to completely cover the target at 50 yds.
Think this will do me for deer hunting this year.
Happy with the results

I'm the same age as you are. If you take the low shot as a fuzzy sight miss it's shooting real well.

With sweat in your eye warm and fuzzy. :haha:
Yesterday took down one tree and and hauled two truck loads of trimmings to the burn pile, ran a tank of gas through the mower... by the time it was done had dang near staggered myself. The heat creeps up on you and will degrade marksmanship as well as everything else.

Very true on working yourself to death.
No problem at the range since it was in the 70's when I shot.
So the fussy sights were a non-problem,
However I can blame any shot group on T.C. thick fronts sights and my old age.
But hey !! I will take a 3 inch group at 50 yds anyday. Deer will never know the difference.

I sure don't see any problem there. Obviously any deer within that range doesn't stand a chance.

Easy on the heavy work in the heat and humidity. I over did it once and almost died. The older you get the worse it is. The heat creeps up on you and suddenly your strength is gone and you are left in a pickle. I was fortunate that my son-in-law was with me and got me to the shade of the garage and got a fan on me and a wet towel on my head or I would have cashed in my chips right there. Save some of that work for cooler months, we want to keep you around.

Results are just fine.
Especially with not being able to see.
However, IMHO the overpowder wad is unnecessary. And spit is not a good lube at all for hunting. It will dry out and you will then have a 'no lube' patch in the bore. :nono: Do try a more conventional lube, even if it is something simple like olive oil.

Love my O/P wad. Wouldn't shoot without. All I know is that it works for me.
Going to try a homemade lube that I have on hand. Will see how that shoots.

Rifleman..
What is it about shooting tighter groups with an op wad don't you under stand? :surrender:
They work..period
Tight groups are the goal when hunting.
Have you even tried them?
some rifles shine using them..here's one!

all 6 o clock hold

velocity gained as a bonus!

Hey, if you don't like the sights, you might try a patridge sight off a Renegade. I switched one of mine, and I like it better. I did switch the rear sight to match. Also, a peep sight might help. However, at 50yds., you should be alright with what you got.
