Look for a used one. Right now Dixie Gunworks is asking 1300.00 for an Italian made Bess. I believe Cabela's is over 1000.00 as well. They usually pop up on the boards for 8-900.00 used in excellent condition.

Thanks for the information. It seems like I almost never see a used one for sale. Maybe I should hang out on a Revolutionary War discussion board or two, as someone suggested.
