Can anyone tell me what a real nice ,40 caliber halfstock muzzleloader is worth it has 2 makers on it! The barrel is marked BOWN & TETLEY MAKERS PITTSBURG. Bown & Tetley made guns and gun parts from 1848 to 1862. The lock is marked C H & F RAYMOND.The entire piece measures 52 1/4 inches long Thanks for any help.

That is an extremely difficult call. Even with photos nobody can truly give you a value although a range of values may be provided. Value is what a willing buyer will pay a willing seller when neither is constrained to act. Antique gun values are based on that principal and usually derived from auction prices. If you post a photo or two you may get someone on the forum who has experience with sales of similar guns to give you a rough idea.

Condition is a major determining factor on value, as well as age. It is impossible to give a definate "value" with out more information. Also what some people think is a value others will disagree. Just look at auction prices some things go for far more than most people think they are worth, Some a lot less.! :idunno:

Over all condition and wood quality are factors. So are the number and quality of inlays. Bore condition if bought as a shooter. If it is a fairly ornate rifle with nice wood and has survived in good or better shape it could be worth quite a bit. Ball park $750 to $1100. However if you find the right buyer Katy bar the door! Sky's the Limit! Geo. T.
