I have had a traditions deer hunter for about 10 plus years now, every several years i take it to my local dealer where it was purchased and get it tuned up, long story short when i was there to pick it up I noticed the same model on the used rack so I purchased it for my son for a christmas present it looks like it is a couple yrs newer, but it is in all but mint condition

Gary,
In regards to the tune-up, what exactly do you have them do? I seem to give my rifle a tune up every time I clean it. As for the Traditions, I have one of their Hawken rifles and the fit and finish and operation of that rifle is second to only a few. I have been very pleased. Describe the tune-up and perhaps we can save you a few bucks in the future by helping you do it yourself.

Yes, this "tune up" thing is a mystery. If a gun is shooting fine there is no need for any sort of tune up. All that's required is to keep it cleaned and protected from rust.

I have two Traditions and they are tough, accurate and reliable rifles. What "tuning" is done?

I too am from PA, and would love to know who your gun dealer is, and what exactly this tune up entails. I was given a Traditions Deerhunter as a gift 10-15 years ago, and after a little filing to make the mainspring fit a wee bit better, it is pretty much invulnerable, assuming I clean it after shooting it. It even likes those horrible sawn agate flints that everyone hates on this board. :rotf:

Yes I could save some money by doing it myself, but i have to go there to nose around, so i pick a few things up while I am there, and I think I have had this done 3 times.. But I guess it is all about saving money, and maybe I will start doing it myself

You sir, have a dirty mind.

I was thinking about using the tune up excuse to take my grandson to a local gun show.
