Hey gang! Up for sale is a grand old U.S. cavalry horseman’s pistol, made by Mr. Aston in Connecticut, ready for use 173 years later! Asking $750 shipped. This gun was made in 1847 (incredible!) but is in fine service and condition. Unlike so many old Aston military horse pistols, this one has NEVER BEEN SANDED OR ALTERED IN ANY WAY. The stock is in excellent condition with stunningly sharp cartouches and inspector’s stamps as crisp as the day they were struck. Stock integrity is superb with only one tiny crack near the side plate. This is incredibly common for these guns and is cosmetic only, and does not impact the strength of the stock in any way. Brass is all in good shape and looks to never have been sanded. Lock marks and barrel date are easily legible.

Some normal, expected light pitting and patina on the lock and barrel exterior. The gun has been refined by world-renowned barrel maker Robert Hoyt who has made a living for himself servicing and rescuing the bores of old gun barrels and many in the Civil War reenacting and shooting community consider him at the TOP of his field. As such. the bore is new and PRISTINE and the barrel and breech plug were inspected and passed for strength and safety by Mr. Hoyt. Re-lining is where the old bore is lapped out smooth and a new, thin steel liner is installed, restoring the correct bore diameter. In this pistol, the correct .540” smoothbore military specifications were used.

The lock on this gun is in awesome condition with the internal parts displaying their original fire bluing and sear and locking surfaces are all sharp and like-new. Mainspring is stiff and strong, as they originally were. Trigger is also stiff, and that is EXACTLY how they were made originally for safety atop a bucking cavalry horse during a charge! Half cock holds rock-steady and overall the lock functions 100% as well as it did the day it was made. The nipple is a brand new high-quality stainless steel replacement and accepts musket caps (RWS caps work very well). Nipple holster threads are excellent and sharp. Vent hole was cleaned and polished by Mr. Hoyt and ignition with the strong lock is 100% perfect.

I cannot express how solid and shootable this gun is! If you are looking for a shooter for NSSA competition or recreational target practice, THIS IS YOUR GUN. For the collector, the unmolested stock and original metal finishes are ideal. Feel free to ask any questions before ordering. Ships FREE to the lower 48 and does not need an FFL so can ship straight to your door. I accept USPS money orders as payment. Ensure item is legal in your area. Thanks for looking!!
