well I finally got a deer with my flintlock. I've hunted with them off&on for about 35 yrs. yrs. but never to seriously. about 3 yrs. ago I got real involved with a gun I purchased off a local builder.today at 5:30 it all came together. nice mature doe at 40 yds. 1 shot and it happened.the 45 caliber ball did the job. load was .445 round ball .020 ticking patch & hoppes #9 plus.

Nicely done! The only thing better than the first flint deer is the next one and all the rest.

What powder and load?

Congratulations. Must feel great, I'm jealous of all of you who already get to be out after deer with your flingers, here in he People's Republic of Connecticut I have to wait til December.

Good for you. Revel in the success and enjoy those steaks.

Congratulations ramrod! I hope this will be the first of many deer to be taken with your flintlock rifle. My first flintlock killed deer was a doe in 1989. I used a 50 caliber Hatfield longrifle. I have hunted exclusively with flintlocks since 1996 and now would not consider hunting with anything else.
