[/img] Gentlemen,
a mate of mine imported this Nepalese Bess in from IMA a few months ago. I had the lock repaired and tuned, as it was on full cock and the mainspring had lost some tension, it is now a good sparker. All the iron work was soaked in a molasses and water bath, 4 water to 1 molasses by volume for a few weeks, all the rust and grime washed off as slime. Bore is lightly pitted but looks quite serviceable. The musket has been assembled with minimal work. The wood is ver hard, do not know what it is. It will now be stripped, the stock stained and the iron work will be hand polished, but not to mirror bright.

You can do the same as the bottom one with your stock , lots of sliming down :)
TOP photo ,bottom gun is the same as yours , (not used as a shooter though)
Bottom photo is as was used around 1830 in Nepal (Baker stock )

I second that!! Nice find. That will turn out very nice. And you get to shoot an original. Wish I had never traded my original 1805 Third Model. Use to shoot it all the time. Bought it in 1965 for $125.00.
Rick. :hatsoff:

Gents, I pick up some 690 ball this Sunday, and some more flints. I will give the barrel a light proof next week out of the stock then will post some photos of her being shot of the shoulder. Looking at 4 drams of Goex Fg, will make up the shots as cartridges. Looking forward to it. Then my mate can polish the barrel and lock, not to Mirror ! and stain and oil the stock.

Let us know how you get on :) , I have no intention of shooting mine as I have a Pedersoli for competition , consider doing the handrail mod to the buttstock , they look sooo much better .

Phill as it is not mine, I won't try at this stage. Got a selection of balls a few at .690, and several at .729, plus half a dozen nice musket flints from Brandon. It will be next weekend when I try it out. I do agree the bannister rail stoke looks and feels better. I had a feel of both a short land pattern and a charleville today !! The inside of the Bess lock looked brand new !! Sure is better quality than the one I am working on.

Cheers

Well chaps, here she is with her owner, all proofed and shot fine, just a couple of rounds at the base of a gum tree in the garden. Still have to sort out another sling swivel at the trigger guard as it is to narrow, I may be able to reforge it, if not off to TOW. Surprising little recoil, with 3 drams of Fg, one ball patched the other just wadded. Lock time quite fast, but have to use a fair bit of priming as the touch hole is a little high and to the rear of the pan.
