Back a few years ago came across this smoothbore musket. Apparently the owner died and the next of kin didn't want it so I got it free.

There are no markings on the gun. And the only reason I say it is from Belgium is the tag that is on the gun. The tag states:
MFGR Belgium
CAL 69
CODE #10948
PRICE $250.00

I would like to shoot it but would like more info on it. Since there are sling swivels on it, I kind of think it is supposed to be a military issue. Any one who can give me info, I would appreciate it...

Possibly it has some original parts but for all intents and purposes it was made circa. 1970 .

I don't think it was built in Belgium.

The rear sight is an available casting presently sold by Track of the Wolf. #RS-G-403, installed backwards.

The lock is very close to some sold by Dixie Gunworks back in the 1980's.

All together it reminds me of a home built gun made from parts sold in the U.S..

This includes the fake striping on the stock.

If my guess is right, the gun would very likely be safe to shoot but it would be a good idea to have a gunsmith look it over first.

Oh. Any gun built in Belgium must be proofed and carry the Belgian proof marks in order for it to be sold.

stock looks to new to be original. if u want a shooter save ur money and get a used known brand. lyman, t/c,cva. I am talking about early quality ones. not the junk there putting out now.ya I speak my mind and opions from what I have seen on shelves today.

Looks like one of the bunch of Liege parts guns Stoeger imported during the late 60's on. Many were assembled from much earlier parts, some military, and a few may actually have been left over stuff made for the African trade. This one has been restocked since then or the stock's been completely refinished with striping and the current rear sight added. They were supposed to be safe to shoot (?) and I know a few who did, but I was also very leery of them. The price isn't outrageous for what it is but I think you can get better for that or a bit more.

+1 on the Liege parts / Stoeger suggestion. Looks very similar to a Stoeger black powder gun I came across at an estate sale earlier this year. Same look to the muzzle and ramrod. As much as I tried to talk myself into buying it, the quality just wasn't there and it didn't look and feel right. I'm guessing the rifle in this post started out as one of those Stoeger 1960s/1970s imports and was "customized" by the owner with the fake tiger striping, new rear sight and defarbed/scrubbed of the makers mark and proofs

Thanks all for the info... I kind of figured it was cobbled together from the look of the rear sight and how it was installed.

I am going to have it checked out and see if it is able to be shot and use it for a light load plinker... At least if was free, so I didn't lose anything in getting it...
