This is a nice picture of a friend shooting his flint lock at dusk. Notice the unburned powder.

Before i even saw your post that was my first
thought. Load down 10grs (take picture) then load down 5gr
(take picture and compare) There shoud be a noticeable
difference I would think :m2c:

At least we know the powder is pushing the ball the full length of the barrel...

If your friend is running FFg, suggest he drops to FFFg to help completely burn the powder charge...
 
This brings up a question/thought I have been dwelling on. How much powder is "contaminated" by the lube on average?
