AKAIK, Flo's is still open. I'm in Brunswick, York's a bit far for a hot dog but Reny's carries their relish. Do you do any shooting locally? I'd like to do more, but options seem limited.

    India Barrel Failure

Isn't proofing usually done with 2x the maximum powder charge? 200gn of powder sounds excessive for a 50cal pistol, like 3-4x. Plus an extremely heavy bullet.

FOR SALE Original Dixon Copper Flask (REDUCED)

Old copper, silver, and brass have their own look when cleaned vs new materials. I personally prefer cleaned, because they would have been kept reasonably clean back in the day. Tarnish is neglect, which is the enemy of all antiques. But aggressively buffing or polishing? Oftentimes that's worse.

I didn't know his BAR history.

The Stowes are over 50 years old. I didn't buy mine as a collectable, but it does have history and I don't want to ruin it, either.

    Brown Bess Lockplate Modification

The Stowe locks were on Navy Arms guns, from what I've read here on these forums and elsewhere. Pedersoli made the locks and barrels, but Navy Arms made the stocks. How do the NA models compare? (Honest question- I know how the Pedersoli falls short, and I respect your opinion.)

    Brown Bess Lockplate Modification

I didn't say to put the lock in an Indian gun. This lock is part of a complete gun. I suggested he sell that gun, intact, and modify an Indian gun.

I have one. You could probably get $800 for the gun, though.

You will never have a "purely authentic Rev War impression" with that gun. Certainly not if you're trying to make a CoS musket out of it.

It is rare. He'd be better off selling the whole gun and buying an Indian import to modify.

Marking Identification: New England Militia Musket

Enlarged, it looks nothing like an eagle. Possibly an imported or recycled barrel with the original proof mark overstruck to obliterate.

Were mzldrs and revolvers cleaned back in the day, as we do today?

In the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, cleaning was a priority once camp was established for any length of time, provided the enemy was not close by.

SOLD - Pending funds Pedersoli Brown Bess with bayonet

The Pedersoli Bess isn't really any model. It's undersized in the butt stock and the lock isn't historically accurate.

Welcome from Brunswick. Muzzleloaders are addictive. Black powder smoke is stronger than crack cocaine. 😉

    Leather costrel

Thank you! Yes, a costrel is a kind of container for liquids. They go back to Roman times at least and could also be made of pottery. Some are personal size, some for household or tavern use. Some were even several gallons in size to hold the wine tax from inbound ships. This is my second try...

    Leather costrel

Just finished a leather costrel to go with my F&I War era kit I'm working on, based on historical examples. It's been saturated with beeswax to waterproof and harden.

Traditions Kentucky Rifle, really not a bad gun

Thanks! This is the other side of that one. This is a tribute to the 1830s dispute over the Maine-Canada border, culminating in the Aroostook War in 1838-39. The Republic of Madawaska, which had formed and attempted to separate from Canada, reportedly had a flag with an eagle and 6 stars. These...
