Handgun Questions

Hello all.

It has been a hot minute since my last post. I hope everyone is as well as can be. So anyhow, I am not sure if 2 fools met on this one or what but I got a matching pair form the same year of Armi San Marco .44 cal pistols. I have reason to believe the importer was Kassnar out of PA but I am not 100% sure of myself on that one. According to the stamps, these are 1988 and in never been fired condition.

Now I am not going to ask any major questions because most of the time all that does is cause the old "Those things are junk, they are worthless, scrap them" replies. But yet, those making them replies never ever want to come off of theirs and when they do, they want a hundo or 2 more than what they are worth. ;-) Funny how that works ..... Moving on.

So from what I believe (from some shady research that I may or may not be accurate, I was told that these are Remington replicas due to the stamps and numbers being forward of the trigger guards on the bottom of the frame and barrel. Said if they were Colt, the stamps would be on the starboard side instead. I fully intend on shooting a very light grain load and wad out of these just for the sparks and smoke (the grown up kids love that) and I will also be having fun with my rifles as well. However, these things suck caps so bad I want to put Slix Shot nipples on them but I need to know what avenue to go down first.

1860 Army and Later? They do have the Navy scene on the cylinder. If they are Remingtons, what exactly am I looking at model wise so I know what I am looking at. What I do know is parts are next to nil and when they are available, they rarely to never fit. Good thing I don't mind tooling I guess.

Those are copies of 1860 Colt Armies. A quick search online will show the difference between the two.

You will likely feel a lot better if you just shoot them.

I had a 1986 proofed ASM 1860. It was a fine shooter, every bit as good as my much newer Uberti. Don’t let anyone tell you they’re junk. And as @SOLANCO says, just shoot them.

Or put another way, are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

Nothing wrong with Armi San Marcos. And those are beautiful guns. You're lucky to have them.

I was pretty certain that's what they were and then I had one person really chiming in my ears tossing all kinds of data and this and that around and then a few others chimed in to back him up. They all agreed on the numbers being on the trigger guard (bottom) being Remingtons and Numbers on the right being Colts. So then it got in the back of my mind and after days of debating myself, it was so many of them to very few of my opinion that it finally 99% of the way, had me convinced. The 1% finally had me come in here and ask otherwise.

1 I have already been through and it is in perfect (as it can be) time and the other one has a bit of over travel that I need to work on. Nothing but a thing there. Easily done. My only issue is parts for these things. Every place I look I get the word, "Unavailable". I don't mind doing a little fitting though. I work on old stuff anyhow and make my own springs, I've turned a few screws (i'm not spectacular on a lathe yet), but all in all the parts are rare to find.

So not that I have a general opinion that agrees with what my original opinion was, I will order the Slix Shot nipples for them and be happy with them.

Thanks for the replies all. I really do appreciate ya's! Oh and I'm not a newb per say to the forums. I have been around for ages. Just have done a whole lot more lurking than posting. I mainly posted about my rifles (1 CVA Hawken my dad built and 1 Traditions Shenandoah that I built). I only own these 2 pistols and 1 flintlock pistol that was my dads that just surfaced 7 years after he passed.

I did pal ..... For a couple months before I posted. But thanks for the helpful reply. Did you miss the part where I said I was 99% certain but wasn't 100% certain? I had other guys chime in on another forum that knew much more than I did about the pistols (supposedly) that when they all piled on me, almost convinced me otherwise. If I was 100% convinced, I would have never came back to the forums that I have been a member of for like 10 years now.

Do some homework first and ask questions next time first before kicking a man in the bean bag. But anyhow, I hope all is well your way. Take care and once again, thanks for chiming in. I do actually appreciate it none the less.

Thanks I appreciate it. I was surprised when they both were made available at the same time. It didn't take me all of about 3 or 4 minutes of pondering it to convince myself to pick them up. Some of the Nickel is scuffed up but they have been around since the late 80's. I suppose that if fair for the time frame. There is also a smudge of green paint on one of the grips that I need to get off here shortly. I really want to make them look good and shiny and nice for when I do get them out and my kids are like Nah!!! lets go!! :-D

I agree. 1 is good to go the other I need to do a little timing work on. Then it is off to the kids house in the country to have some fun.

I'm far from an expert on cap/ball revolvers, but I'm 100% certain that those aren't Remington copies. Can't imagine any "expert" offering that advice.

There not junk but all the ones I've worked over needed a lot of help to bring them up to full potential ! That being said every thing was there to make them shoot well with some know how and elbow grease if alignment was half way decent .
