    India Barrel Failure

Something REALLY wrong here. FIRST, the CIP does NOT have universally standardized proofing tests for black powder. Each CIP facility is free to establish their own procedure, to determine if that particular CIP facility will place its stamp(s) on the barrel. YET, the facebook page claims that...

    Smoothbores, 12ga. vs. 20 ga. ?

Referencing Cylinder Bore Barrels: I'd say that 10-12 bore has an advantage when going after water fowl, especially geese, and if one is foolhardy enough, to go after Brown Bears with solid ball. Now it's true a lot of guys these days put a really heavy load into a 20 gauge and proclaim it's...

How about a photograph of the for sale rifle with the required card or piece of paper adjacent to the rifle showing your screen name and the date of the photo? LD

Leaving the range even more confused (Load development)

Do you cast your own ball or do you used commercial swaged? You might want to weigh them, regardless, to perhaps reduce a variable. Your barrel might benefit from a lapping with some 3M Green Dishwashing scrubbie LD

Marking Identification: New England Militia Musket

Yes it does resemble an overstruck symbol, and perhaps because it's in the vicinity of the "U.S." it was some other stamp that was misapplied to this particular musket? LD

    F and I carbines

SORRY I missed this earlier YES here are some photos of a Dutch carbine-musket for mounted troops. This might be the pattern of the Maryland "carbines". The silly auction house doesn't tell us the bore size. The bar assembly allows the rider to wear a sort of single strap harness. This is a...

FOR SALE WHITE OAK BOX WITH FLIP DOWN FRONT FS

I must say that the flip open portion that changes into an upright gun/rifle holder when sitting on the edge of the bench/table, is a rather nifty idea. :thumb: LD

    F and I carbines

The problem with the "Ranger Island Barrel Pieces" is that A) they no longer exists, having been lost B) The Long Land Pattern muskets were being shortened by 4" by that time, but there is no way to know if any of the found pieces came off of LLP King's Muskets C) Shortening a King's musket...

    Manton preccusion shotgun id

First you want it examined to determine IF it may be fired, so somebody can use it, or if it's not shootable, so worth much less, and belongs on a wall at the Cracker Barrel. ;) LD

Who among us are PIPE smokers?

IF you can find it, straight Virginia (shag cut) is a proper historic taste and aroma. Many tobacconists use it as a filler for other blends. Often one must ask. I prefer to use something like a Jamestown clay pipe But they are often hard to find, so this year at Fort Fred I bought several...

    Manton preccusion shotgun id

So I think that because there are only the two stamps from the Birmingham City Proofing House, and no digits indicating the bore, that this shotgun may date as old as 1855 or earlier. The stamp "V*P" may be the inspector's mark as I cannot find it among the official British marks. LD

JUNE 7TH IS NATIONAL DONUT DAY !!!

DONUTS, what we would call a donut goes waaay back. Folks in the Colonial Era would've had access to them and of course that means they were around leading up to and through the ACW. So get yourself some sort of DONUT today folks. HEY it's Friday, why not? Jon Townsend the Working Man's...
